The bride and the wedding

Sunday, February 16, 2014

Yesterday my best friend and amazing lady Jonna got married to her big love since many years back, Mattias! They had decided to hold a small wedding where only the parents where invited to the ceremony and knowing Jonna who doesn't like to make a big fuss over these kinds of things, it suited them just perfectly!

But what kind of friend would I be if I didn't find a way to be a part of their special day? So I had to find myself a job! Knowing that Jonna's adorable and talented sister where going to make her a lovely 20s inspired dress I "graciously" volunteered to make the hair and make up for the day.

So I spent the night at the soon to be newly weds apartment making pin curls and nails the day before the big day. While drinking non-alcoholic sparkling wine and eating chocolate we laughed, watched the olympic figure skating and talked late into the evening. When the morning came I was so tired that I overslept a little bit and the cute couple didn't wake me because they thought I needed my sleep. I have been working very early mornings all week and have been sleeping very bad so a little extra rest was very welcome event though I had planned to get up earlier and prepare breakfast.

Then it was time to take out the pin curls we had done the day before and Jonna looked like a little fairytale princess with the cork screw curls we ended up with. While it was cute this was not the look we where going for so of course I had to whip out my trusted boar bristle brush and start to brush, brush, brush and brush a little more.

After a while a shape started to form and we went from fairytale cork screws to smooth forties locks. This was actually the first time that I pinned curled Jonna's hair so I was not absolutely sure on how it would turn out. So for being the first time I thought it came out completely fine, Jonna's hair is very thick with fine hair strands and I had to do a lot of brushing to make the whole head come out smooth.

This was the final result! A loose 20s inspired up do with a wave in the front and some curls on the sides! We kept the makeup quite simple with a light foundation, some warm brown and gold eyeshadows, a winged eyeliner and peachy/coral cheeks and lips. I also worked with some different shades of concealer to bring out the shapes of her face. This is a good tip and something to keep in mind if you are going to be photographed a lot, sometimes the angles of the face gets faded out due to changing and different light conditions.

I think it all turned out great and she was absolutely beautiful!

Mattias were handsome in a navy blue suit, white shirt and a dotted bow tie. They looked so adorable together and when they shared a glance they were completely radiant!

A high heeled pair of light brown Swedish hasbeens adored the bride's feet and suited the breezy simplicity of the dress well.

Jonna's talented sister Janelle who had made the beautiful dress also photographed the couple. They started outside but due to bad weather they returned back home to take a few indoors. I did not complain because that made it possible for me to also snap some shots!

Though the wedding was a small affair many people came together to give the couple a wonderful day. Another family member had personally arranged a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a gift and without even seeing the dress (except a little colour swatch) she had made an amazing job! We were all surprised at how perfect it matched everything and suited Jonna's taste to a T. It also contained my absolute favorite flower ranunculus, aren't they simply divine?

Then the couple left the building and went of to get married! I stayed at the apartment, cleaned up a little bit and fixed some snacks for when they got back. And I will not lie, I did it all with a little tear in my eye. I'm a complete sucker for weddings and I always cry a little because it is all so wonderful. To have a day where you celebrate the special love between two people in the manner that they want is nothing less than romantic! (And I never use that word!)

Versailles, oh Versailles..

Thank you for all the thoughtful and heartwarming comments on my last blogpost. I'm still not fully out of the whirlwind and I am still struggling.
But on a happier note I had finally some time to do a photoshoot with my beautiful friend Sara. Those of you who has read my blog for a while will recognize her from other blogposts and she is such an inspirational friend! We took these photos today right in the back of my house and I'm quite happy with how they turned out. What do you think?

Ordinary winters day

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

So, for the past week I have been sick. And let me tell ya, it's quite boring! At first I tried to do some small stuff around the apartment, like cleaning it up a bit. But no, my energy reserve has been down to zero so the only thing I've had the energy to do is lying in my bed and watch things on my new computer. At the moment I'm starting to get a little bit better but I will stay home a little while longer just to make sure that I'm healthy. The worst thing I know is being a little bit sick for weeks. And that tends to happen to me when I don't listen to my body and start working to early. Guess I have to be bored for a while longer.

Any who, thought I would share these photos with you guys. These were taken on one of the coldest winter days a couple of weeks ago and I'm actually wearing double (!) cardigans underneath. And it was still a bit too cold..This is how I tend to look on an average day right now. Due to the cold I always wear my doc's (which have the perfect sole for cold weather! I think the sole is very important since much of the cold comes from what you are standing on, speaking as a swede with family ties in the far north, hrm hrm.), my beret, and on top of that my handmade scarf that I love and got as a birthday gift when I turned 24, it's super warm!

As you might guess it is quite hard to be creative with what you wear since the weather isn't really cooperating with me. I even have to wear super warm pieces underneath or I would freeze to ice.
I'm really missing spring and I really want it to arrive soon!

Peacocks stays inside when it's winter

Vintage black 50's cigarette pants: thrifted

So, over here it's freezing cold! That's why I haven't posted any outfit posts in a while. It's so cold that even if I think its boring I tend to go for my warmest winter jacket from Filippa K and early in the morning I even wear my super warm pants that actually are made for skiing. Off course I try to wear some more interesting stuff underneath but it's so cold that I can't wear stockings and if I'm honest my pants collection isn't very big. It was years since I wore a par of jeans!
On top of it all it's also pitch black. Right now it's six o'clock and it looks like the middle of the night outside. You would think that I should be use to this (being born and raised in Sweden and with family ties to the far north) but every year I long for summer.

To survive the cold I tend to find small projects for myself to do inside. I recently finished off this lamp by buying three different coloured lampshades. I've been framing some pictures, playing my ukulele (ironically), making videoclips, painting my nails, drawing, drinking huge amounts of tea, contemplating making my own three day truffles, playing with my hair and so on and so on.

But finally I had to dress up and venture out to a party since my dear friend Sara is back from Chili (wrote a post about it here) and I thought I'd share my outfit with you! This blouse is one of my favorite pieces since it's so light, comfortable, classic and a still bit different with the peacock print and collar. But I still had to wear my warmest jacket, a big hand stitched scarf and warm leather gloves on my way to the party, just so I wouldn't freeze into an ice sculpture on my way there!

Woah, I've been a bad blogger, I know. Well so much has been going on it's crazy!
Well, I celebrated my 25th birthday last friday and let's just say it will take some time until I plan a party again. It was so much hard work but I hope everyone enjoyed the party! First I had a dinner with some of my closest friends and then we headed over to the club. During the dinner I couldn't really relax so I actually had the most fun at the club. One amazing thing about the club is that I've started a soul club called "Four get overexcited" together with my boyfriend and two friends! So, my birthday party was actually also the premier of the club, and it went so well! Everyone complimented us on the music and our two dj's (Lady Midnight and Karl Marthon) who are big soul collectors and also good friends loved the vibe and Lady Midnight even promised to come back and play again, and he is quite hardcore in to his stuff so even though we are friends I know he would tell me if he weren't happy with the evening.
This was amazing and I would like to thank them and everyone who came! Thank you so much!

I also got some sweet presents that I will share on the blog when I come around to it! And off course I will post some pictures, even though I was a bad photographer who mostly danced and hung out with my lovely friends.

Well babes, otherwise I'm working my ass off and trying to come back on the creative train. This picture was actually taken at the wonderful hotel L'hermitage in La Baule and I can fell that my french nerve is tingling  Maybe I will have to go back soon. And, by the way, thank you soo much for your wonderful comments! It really warms my heart to hear from you and read what you're opinions are on different topics!

Lot's of love!

This monday I turned 25!
My morning started with singing and breakfast in bed (a typical swedish tradition that me and "Erik" hold near and dear). Then I went to work and enjoyed my homemade apple crumble pie with caramel together with some colleagues. Finally I ate dinner with "Erik" and chocolate cake with my family. So the day contained a lot of food to celebrate with. Otherwise it was kind of a quiet day and not much happened.

Many people asked me if I felt any different now that I have reached the middle of my twenties.
You know when you've been waiting for your birthday for quite some time and when it suddenly arrives nothing really feels different? It's the same every year, I wake up and expect that something has happened during the night. Suddenly maybe I'm smarter, wiser or just cooler? But no, I realize that I'm still the ol' geek I was yesterday. Well the same thing happened this birthday but then I realized something still had changed. Not over night but a slow change that has been building up for some time.
First of all, I think I'm starting to hold a certain power that I didn't have before, the power of age. I know that I'm not old but still I'm not a youngster that hasn't seen anything. You can't just be pushed around and not listened to when you have the authority of age. That's important, especially I think when you are a woman. Even though you're short and not that big you can still slam your fist on the table and say "I'm twenty-five years old and I wont stand for this".
A second thing I realized is that suddenly old guys think's it's ok to hit on me. For some reason a lot of old dudes has been making their presence noticed at work and I think it's because I'm not a baby anymore. But hey, I still think that they are a little bit too old for me.
With this I also realized that I am tired of energy thieves. So, I just want to surround myself with the people that I care about and that cares for me. I don't want to waste my time with stuff or people that stresses me out. And there are a lot of interesting, cool and inspiring people out there that I haven't met yet.
Well, this was a little bit deep but I think it's important to let some emotions out and tell the people I love how important they are to me.

(And, don't worry. I will celebrate my birthday with a bang the 2nd of November! Then it will be party time!)
